Message from the Tumuaki

Denise Torrey —

He mihi mahana ki a koutou katoa - Warm greetings to all.

Welcome to Term 2 and I hope you managed to get a break with your children over the holiday break.

Welcome to our new teacher in Space 8, Ms Kiri Kahukura and also welcome to Dianne Heslop who joins our Learning Support team.

On Monday our teacher Only Day covered a variety of topics to do with the refreshed curriculum! Reading, maths, enviro school as well as work on Pacific Education and behaviour management.

We are perplexed with some of the messaging in the media recently. We teach reading, writing and mathematics for an hour each day as well as teach te reo. The focus has and always will be on literacy and numeracy so I would call this messaging mischievous and ill informed!

This newsletter has some important information about New Entrant enrollments for 2024. Please read carefully.

The events calendar is filling up but the calendar is updated regularly so please keep an eye on it.

Unfortunately COVID continues to visit us with sick tamariki and kaiaiko. Please remember to report if your child has COVID.  If there is COVID in your household and if your child/ren don't have COVID they may attend school but need to wear a mask and test daily.

We will continue to work on the hygiene messages with the tamariki as well as sure we have ventilation in rooms. We won't be holding big gatherings in the teaching spaces but use the hall where we can open doors when there is a bigger group.

Looking at the events calendar you will see we have another busy term ahead!
