Ukulele Lessons and Orchestra

Julie Bassett —

From Term 2 we are excited that we are again able to offer ukulele lesson with our fabulous teachers Ally and Matty. These will be held on Tuesday lunchtimes. The teachers are very experienced teachers and musicians and the children make very quick progress, learning in a fun, engaging way.

The ukulele is a wonderful way to start a journey of learning music as it is easy to pick up and make progress, and a great way to gain an understanding of rhythm, notes and chords. Students who learn ukulele can transfer this knowledge to the guitar and also other instruments as they get older.

Here is a little taster of the ukulele orchestra from last year:

This year Year 4-6s will be taught together in the Ukulele orchestra for 40 minutes and the Year 2-3s will be taught in small groups for 20 minutes, to suit the age and stage for different children. Lessons will be $80 for the term for all students.

Ukulele students will have the opportunity to perform at Strum Strike Blow this year and also be part of the Kahukura music festival, playing together with other students from the Kahukura cluster.

We have a number of ukuleles at school that can be loaned for lessons, however we recommend that players have their own instruments to practice with at home. These cost around $70. If the lesson and instrument costs are difficult for your family please get in touch.

Here is the sign up form if you think this is something for your child:
