One of our strategic goals this year is for us to move from Biculturalism to Multiculturalism - by celebrating diversity at Somerfield Te Kura Wairepo. As part of this we will be creating a new outdoor mural on the green wall of the Junior Block. The mural will reflect images and symbols of our diverse school community. Our goal is to represent the over 40 cultures of our school in some way in the mural. The theme is nature and the environment. We are very lucky to have the skills and expertise of a team of talented artists from our parent community to help us develop this. We will also be involving the Year 6 Creative Council in the planning, and the wider school community when it is ready to be painted. What we need from you and your tamariki: Symbols, pictures, photos, ideas that represent the natural environment of your family's culture. This might be a tree, a leaf, a flower, a mountain, a bird or animal, a photo or a natural landmark. These may be drawn or just printed off/shared files. Please send your ideas to school in an envelope with your family name and culture written on the front OR Email your ideas to j.brittenden@somerfield.school.nz by Friday September 16th. Thanks so much for your support, we are very excited about this project.
