Our Kura
Somerfield Te Kura Wairepo is a U6 school, located at the base of the Cashmere Hills in Christchurch, is a primary school with a strong focus on holistic learning. We are known for our SMART values, which stands for Socially Adept, Motivated, Articulate, Resilient, Thinkers.
The kura is set in park-like grounds with historical trees and well-kept gardens. We are proud of our good-quality playground equipment, bike track and learning facilities.
Somerfield Te Kura Wairepo is committed to the wellbeing of its students, believing that children must be well before they can learn. The school works in partnership with whānau to provide a supportive learning environment. The teaching staff is passionate, committed, and well-resourced, focusing on the learning of every child.
The school’s motto is "Forward Together, Smiles Forever, Learning Every Day, Smart Kids for Life", reflecting our commitment to fostering a positive, collaborative, and lifelong learning environment.

Kahukura - A community of practice.
Kahukura is a Community of Practice consisting of seven schools – Addington Te Kura Taumatua, Te Ara Koropiko West Spreydon, Sacred Heart, Christchurch South Karamata Intermediate, Somerfield Te Kura Wairepo, Te Kura o Huriawa Thorrington and Cashmere Primary Te Pae Kererū.
Our vision is – supporting responsive, collaborative learning connecting students, teachers and communities across the cluster.
We work together on a strategic plan that includes – Cultural Responsiveness, Deep Learning and the refreshed curriculum, Relation Based Learning and Inclusive Education.
The Kahukura Music Festival was highly successful with all schools performing at Cashmere High School Performing Arts Centre. Each year we hold the Kahukura Festival with a picnic and kapahaka performance. These two events are becoming highlights in our calendar.
