Message from the Tumuaki
He mihi mahana ki a koutou katoa - Warm greetings to all.
Tuesday night was a feast of Kahukura Community of Practice (COP) talent. Four school choirs, soloists, chorale, a jazz band, dance group, and a large group of ukelele performers from all cluster schools performed with energy and delighted the audience.
The theme was Anthems and of course there were lots of opportunities for those of us in the audience to get involved and sing along.
Of course for the hundreds (yes hundreds) of Somerfield supporters all eyes were on our choir who gave a really polished performance. Thank you to the 96 choir members who sang their hearts out. A huge thank you to Meagan McKinney, Kim Radcliffe Price and Sioned Rees for preparing them for their performance.
Special mention must go to those who went to the challenge and performed a solo. Hana and Maia Mcintosh, Willa Haldane, Lily Daines and Lucy Muller. Thank you for sharing your talent and being brave in front of all those people. Also to Mathilda Steffens and Florence Lithgow who accompanied some items on the cajon (drum).
We also had a number of tamariki in the chorale. These children practice every week and add the harmonies to the massed choir songs but their harmonised songs were a stand out. Congratulations to Liam Siaosi, Lottie Greggains, Harley Guerin, Lucy Muller, Willa Haldane, Mathilda Steffens, Florence Lithgow, Lily Daines, Henry Howard and Maia McIntosh.
It was also great to see so many ex Somerfield tamariki perform in the South choir, jazz band and dance group.
Next Thursday we have 30 Year 3-5 tamariki perform in the Strum, Strike and Blow concert. We wish them all the best.
Tomorrow our Year 6 Epro8 team compete in the semi finals at South Karamata Intermediate.
A reminder next Friday is Teacher Only Day. (16 August) SCHOOL IS CLOSED
