Message from the Tumuaki

Denise Torrey —

He mihi mahana ki a koutou katoa - Warm greetings to all.

Hard to believe that this is May weather. Warm days and warmish rainfall is usually unheard of at this time of year. It has been great for the number of trips that have gone out this week as part of our school sustainability unit.

Because of the weather our SMART Somerfield Kids are wearing plenty of layers to school.  Unfortunately, with the warm weather they are leaving their clothing behind and we now have accumulated property forming our  "Lost Property Mountain".

It would be great if our tamariki took more responsibility for their  belongings!

We do our best to keep on top of the named lost property but sadly, only a fraction of the items are named. At the end term if we cannot find an owner for the clothing it will be washed and sold as secondhand uniform.

Missing Bikes and Scooters

It's great to have so many tamariki riding or scootering to school. A reminder they MUST have a helmet going to and from school. Can you please take 5 mins to complete the City Council Annual School Travel Survey. You'll find a bit more information and the link to the survey in another article.

We have had a few incidents where we have had the wrong bike or in most cases, scooter taken home by accident as they look exactly the same. It would be helpful, and save some distress, if bikes and/ or scooters had defining features or even named if possible. It is quite time consuming tracking down lost wheelies  and it could have been easily  prevented.

We do our best to keep the bikes and scooters safe, including stands that give the option of locking. If the children lock their bikes and scooters this would also help.

Only a week to go until the Enviro - athon cards and money are due. Thanks you to those who have already returned these. There will be a prize draw for all cards and money returned.
