Message from the Principal

Denise Torrey —

He mihi mahana kia koutou katoa - Warm greetings to all.

Last week the government announced the roll out of 600 Learning Support positions across NZ.  Unfortunately as Kahukura is not a Community of Learning  we weren't considered for the first tranche. This is disappointing for us as we have informed the Mana Ake project and worked with clusters around Christchurch to develop  their systems. Added to this  Kahukura  asked ERO to evaluate our Community of Practice and we are currently waiting their full findings. In his initial feedback the CEO of ERO ,Nick Pole, was positive about our leadership structure and how they could use us as an example to inform the system. He went on to say that ERO "will also consider deriving a useful best practice report."

Pretty high praise for our cluster to help inform the system!!

As the first tranche of co-coordinators is to develop these new roles we had hoped that the Ministry would choose a cluster that had effective systems and experience in doing so!!

Kahukura is awaiting the final feedback  from ERO but what we have seen  so far is very positive. As with all evaluations we will also be given some next steps. Later in the term we will share this evaluation with you.

But we are very pleased to have an extra 600 positions to help the tamariki of New Zealand.

Once again I need to remind parents about not parking on the yellow lines by the crossings and sticking to the 3 minutes rule in the 3 minute parking. The police and council will be doing a blitz soon and we will not be telling you when!
