All about milk

On the first day of term three the school dressed up as scientists or things with science in their jobs.We did lots of science experiment and learnt about lots of different things. My favourite thing was learning about cows.

Firstly, the lady there told us about how cows milk.Cows have udders or teats which the milk comes out of. If you don't milk a cow properly, the cow will have chunky milk and the udder will get an infection.

Then we learnt about how cows produce their young. Sometimes a bull is put into a paddock with lots of cows, and since the cows are with the bull they will produce young. The young are called cows.

After learning about how cows breed, we tasted different kinds of milk. I tasted almond milk first and it was DISGUSTING!!!! It immediately put me off tasting any more kinds of milk. I just had to try milking a cow so I went to the next table. There a bucket with teats above it. I never knew milking was so hard!

Over all I think cows are very interesting and are quite helpful to humans.

Lava Lamps

On the first day of term three we had a science day.I dressed up as a mad scientist. We also had stations to go to my favourite station was when we made lava lamps.

First Kirsten talked about lava lamps and that you can use salt for small lava lamps to make them fizz up but can’t use salt for big lava lamps because it won’t work as good. For the big lava lamps you have to get this tablet which has baking soda and a little bit of salt. The tablet will make the big lava lamp fizz up.

Next, Kirsten started telling us how to make lava lamps. First Kirsten poured ⅓ of cold water into the bottle. Then she poured some oil to fill the rest of the bottle up.Next she dropped some food colouring in. After she plopped a tablet in and it all fizzed up.

After we knew how to make lava lamps we all sat down and watched all the bubbles go up to the top of the bottle and saw the tablets go to the bottom very slowly.

Overall I think lava lamps are really cool and you should make one at home.

Coke Explosion

On the first day back of term three, the school had a science day. All the school dressed up as some sort of scientist. My favourite experiment station was the coke and mentos experiment.

As soon as we got to the coke and mentos station, we plonked L&P, diet coke and coke-cola into a tub of water. The L&P and coke-cola sank, and the diet coke floated. I had a deep thought of why the diet coke floated, and why the L&P and coke-cola sunk.

After, we placed all the can of drink in the water, our group had to think why the diet coke floated, and why the L&P and coke-cola sunk. Some people thought the diet coke doesn't have sugar in it. ( they thought sugar made the can sink ) Some even thought the diet coke has less dink and more air in it. We didn't get to declare why the diet coke floated, and why the L&P and coke-cola sunk.

Next, we finally did the coke and mentos experiment, Mr Harrison screwed the funnel onto the top of the bottle. Then we put a needle through a hole in the funnel so the mentos can sit on the needle without going into the diet coke. Next we placed seven mentoses in the funnel. Now all the mentos is in the funnel. Mr Harrison pulled the needle out…. KABOOM! The diet coke when exploding everywhere!

Overall, the coke and mentos experiment was really cool and I learnt a lot of new things and I would love to learn more about it.
