A 13-strong Somerfield Te Kura Wairepo squad had a successful outing at the South West Zones Cross Country at Halswell Quarry on Tuesday.

The team of Hazel Rutherford, Penny Ingram, Mia Croft, Freddie Panckhurst, Jesse Laurie, Jordan White, Stanley Staunton (Year 5), Anna Evans, Isla Williams, Lucy Sewell, Guy Moore, Pedro Machado Wada, Taila Iino-Curd (Year 6) joined 13 other schools in warm conditions – but slippery underfoot – at the Quarry this week.

Eight of our runners qualified for the Central Zones and will return to Halswell Quarry on June 22 including Hazel and Guy who were second in the girl's Year 5 and boy's Year 6 race respectively, while Anna and Mia both finished third in their age groups – Ka mau te wehi!

A big thank you to our parent helpers who provided transport and were our cheer squad around the course.
