Message from the Tumuaki

Denise Torrey —

He mihi mahana ki a koutou katoa - Warm greetings to all.

Please be aware that with Wellington going to Alert Level 2 we all need to be super vigilant. This includes the usual health precautions but also if you are entering the grounds please scan the code.

On Tuesday it was lovely to welcome tamariki from our local ECE to celebrate Matariki with us. Thanks to Daniel Caigou for organising and the Year 1,2,5,6 teachers for helping with the preparations.

"Celebrate good times come on". This was the last song of the evening for the Kahukura Music Festival and what a celebration it was! Four Kahukura schools and a chorale made up of the seven schools certainly celebrated the talents of our tamariki.  We were delighted by our  60 strong Waka Kōpapa choir and the 14 Year 5 & 6's who were part of the chorale. Whānau will attest to the fact that they did a great job and there were a few teary eyes!! Thank you tamariki, we are very proud of you. Special thanks to Sanchia Paterson who is choir teacher and conductor for the Year 3 & 4 choir and Jane Brittenden who helped with the chorale and was stage manager for the festival. A special shout out to our soloists, Kaiah Helsham, Noah Green and Charlotte Chinn. They deserved their special round of applause.

Wednesday was a busy day with our 7 strong Cross Country team competing in the Central Christchurch Cross Country Competition. Congratulations to this group, even getting into the Centrals is a major undertaking.

Next week we have two Year 5 & 6 teams competing in the Basketball Tournament at Pioneer. Best of luck to these teams.

Next week we have a number of evening meetings.

Monday, 28 June 6pm - Kahukura Parenting Workshop - Hall

Tuesday, 29 June 6pm - Whānau Hui - invites for this meeting have been sent to parents of Māori tamariki. Staffroom

Thursday, 1 July 6pm - Board of Trustees meeting. Staffroom

We are getting a number of children complaining that they are hungry. They have food but they are eating it all. As it's colder they need some extra food to ward off the cold and get through the day. Please have this conversation with your child and ensure they have plenty to eat.

Reports will be coming home at the end of the term. You will get these on the School APP and email. You will also receive information about booking Learning Journeys which are at the beginning of the term. Learning Journeys are an opportunity for our tamariki to share their learning with their whānau. If you wish to meet with teachers you can do this any time by emailing and making an appointment directly with them.

Dates for Learning Journeys

Waka Tētē - 2/3 August

Waka Mōkihi  and Kōpapa - 9/10 August
