Message from the Tumuaki

Denise Torrey —

He mihi mahana ki a koutou katoa - Warm greetings to all.

Last Thursday was the PTA AGM and election. Our new Chairperson is Teri Tinerau, Vice Chair - Sarah Benton, Secretary - Vicki Hubbard, and Treasurer- Angela Edwards. Thank you to Ben Kendrew for his leadership these past two years. Along with Elise McMurdoch, they helped navigate the PTA through a couple of interesting COVID years supported by Teri as Secretary and Angela as treasurer and a small but pro-active committee.

The next PTA meeting is Thursday 30 June 7pm if you would like to join them and find out what they are up to.

Congratulations to our Cross Country team who competed at Halswell Quarry on Tuesday. You will see an article further in the newsletter. I'd like to thank Dave Harrison, Jane Sewell, and all the whānau who supported our team. It was a very successful day!

Congratulations to Nicky Horne, our DP, and her team at Radio Lollipop who have won an award from Volunteering Canterbury. Radio Lollipop supports children and young people at Christchurch Hospital. It gives young patients a voice and a choice during their stay. While they can´t say "no" to taking their medicine or receiving treatment, they can request their favourite songs, win prizes and hear their own voices on the radio. If you want to learn more about Radio Lollipop or make a donation here is further information.

Friday is Teachers Only Day and SCHOOL is CLOSED. The professional development for the staff includes Maths and Behaviour. Somerfield Te Kura Wairepo is one of 10 schools across the mōtū trialing a new tool measuring levels of te reo for the Education Review Office and this will be done with the staff on this day.

Reminders

Carpark - please DO NOT use the staff carpark, including walking or biking through it. Tamariki see adults do this and think they can too. It is dangerous.

Lunches - cold weather makes hungry tummies. Please ensure you children have plenty of food for lunch and morning tea.

Arriving before 8:30 - children should not arrive at school before 8:30am. They have to wait at the gates if they arrive before then so best plan their arrival between 8:30 - 8:45am.
