Message from the Tumuaki

Denise Torrey —

He mihi mahana kia koutou katoa - Warm greetings to all.

At last Fridays assembly we were delightfully entertained by our ukelele group. Thank you to the tamariki for sharing their items and to Paul Lee who takes lessons here once a week after school with this group. See the photos below.

Thank you to everyone who donated money to the Pacific Red Cross on Friday. We raised $800. A great effort to help the Red Cross efforts in Samoa.

Wednesday was a busy day for our tamariki with the Year 6's at Omaka, Space 9 choir performing at Barrington mall and the Year 2's climbing Kahukura Maunga. See photos below.

We have had members of the public ring us twice recently after witnessing near misses between our children and cars on the local roads. Luckily these were near misses. In reality children have poor judgement of moving vehicles and peripheral vision under about age 13 years. Unless you are super confident about your child's bike riding you might review their biking on the roads and or get in plenty of practice over the holidays! In both cases it was good the motorists were vigilant. This is not always the case as I'm sure you are aware, especially as some believe the law about using cell phones while driving is a suggestion and doesn't apply to them!

Tomorrow is an important assembly where we celebrate our Term 4 SMART Somerfield Kid for each Space and we acknowledge all the children who help our school in some way. Service is an important attribute to celebrate because not everything we do is done for money. New Zealand is fortunate to have so many people willing to volunteer. They do so from everything from Animal rescue to Victim Support. So many New Zealanders are reliant on volunteers when they are vulnerable and need support. So it good to have our tamariki understand the importance of servicing their school and their community. We want to acknowledge their contributions. You are welcome to join us in our celebration.

Thursday next week is our opportunity to thank those who have supported this year. We look forward to seeing you.

Next Friday is our final assembly. As part of this assembly we will farewell our Year 6's as well as Sarah Price and Abby Blanch. Please let us know if your child is not returning so we can farewell them as well.
