Message from the Tumuaki

Denise Torrey —

He mihi mahana ki a koutou katoa - Warm greetings to all.

Our tamariki have settled in well to the term. Next week a number of trips will be happening to support the schoolwide unit on Sustainability.

Enviro-athon

Thanks for your support with this. I hope you and your whānau have enjoyed participating in the many sustainable activities.

Money and cards are due back 19 May (two weeks away). Plenty of time to try some of the ideas on the sheet and collect a few more sponsors!

Sick children

Unfortunately we have had a number of children sent home who have a tummy bug and vomited. If your child has vomited and/or diarrhea our school rule is they must be symptom free for 48 hours before returning to school. We have had children return too early and spread the bug.  These bugs tend to be highly contagious in most cases.

Planning 2024

I know it feels early but we are well underway for planning 2024. On 1 July the Ministry of Education does a roll count which, along with some predictive numbers, generate staffing for the following year. To help us with our planning, if you have a child who is turning 5 in 2024 please read below. If you know anyone in the community who are expecting to have their 5 year old attend Somerfield Te Kura Wairepo in 2024 please share the information about in and out of zone with them.

The map of the zone was in last week's newsletter and is on our website.

Out of Zone New Entrants 2024

There is detailed information for parents of 2024 New Entrant children who have a sibling at school in a further article in this newsletter.

You need to action the steps by 9 June 2023 so we can plan for 2024.

In Zone New Entrants 2024

Please call the office and we will confirm your in zone address and give you the code to complete the online enrolment.
