Message from the Tumuaki

Denise Torrey —

He mihi mahana ki a koutou katoa - Warm greetings to all.

Living in a pandemic world is a movable feast of information. Schools are getting a huge volume of information and then trying to distill what is relevant for whānau and get it out as quickly and timely as we can.

With more and more cases in our community we are warned that we are going to move to Phase 3 of the Red Traffic Light setting soon. This means what we have sent out earlier in the week may not be relevant.

I will endeavour to get information to you as quickly as possible.

Good news is always nice to receive so our virtual assembly is coming to you tomorrow. Inside the school is as normal as it can be. Tamariki are still learning, playing and generally getting on with life. Other than the new safety measures we don't dwell on COVID. But  we are concerned that some children are bombarded by COVID news outside the school and this has seen an increase in anxiety for some. It's tricky when so much of our adult conversations are centred on COVID so it's great to hear the creative ways many of you are ensuring our lives and your children's lives are fulfilled beyond COVID! Everyone needs to turn the news off occasionally!!

Today you will be sent our Community Report. This report gives a quick look back at last year and tells you some of our plans for this year. You will receive this in your email and it will be on our website.

A reminder that this coming Monday, 28 February is Teachers Only Day - SCHOOL IS CLOSED.

We are spending this day focusing on three aspects of our school goals - Mathematics, behaviour management and diversity planning. It will be the first time as a staff we have had a virtual TOD!! During lockdown we had lots of hui but the TOD has meant our teams have had to learn some new skills to ensure we are participating in workshops virtually.

Take care whānau and expect to hear from me soon with updated information, particularly concerning case management.
