Teachers Strike Action

Denise Torrey —

Letter emailed on Friday night about the up and coming strike on Thursday. SCHOOL WILL BE CLOSED

Kia ora Whānau

Industrial Action – NZEI Strike on 16 March 2023.

The NZEI has advised Somerfield Te Kura Wairepo that its member teachers at our school will be taking strike action on 16 March 2023.

The Board has carefully considered the availability of non-union teaching staff, and unfortunately decided that we can’t provide normal instruction during the strike so the school will officially be closed for instruction on the day of the strike. Accordingly, it’s important that you make alternative arrangements for the care of your child/children under 14 years of age during the period of the strike as no supervision can be provided.

We know that this is inconvenient for parents and students alike. Please be assured that student safety is our main concern.

Our board support their teachers with their efforts to achieve better pay and conditions.

Thank you for your understanding. Please contact Denise Torrey, Principal or Stephanie Muller, Presiding Member, if you have any queries relating to this decision.

Yours sincerely

Stephanie Muller Board Presiding Member, on behalf of the Somerfield te Kura Wairepo Board
