Matariki is on the rise over the next few weeks of Term 2

Matariki is on the rise over the next few weeks of Term 2. At Somerfield we are having a variety of events to celebrate the Māori new year. In this newsletter you'll find out some of the key dates for some kapa haka performances that are happening as well as a creative show our Waka Mokihi team are putting on.

Our Years 1,2,5 and 6 students have invited six local early childhood centers to come to one of our performance. After the performance our Y5 and 6 students will be taking the young children for a variety of activities like rock painting, making stars, poi, story telling, kai and making kites.

Rock painting will be hosted by akomanga toru (Room 3) and Room 1 is making stars. Poi will be led by Room 4 (akomanga wha), while storytelling is with Room 3a. Room 2 is preparing a delicious amount of yummy kai (food). Matua Daniel's class will be having the honor of hosting matariki kite making.

Our Year 5/6 team is really looking forward to hosting the ECE teams.
