Message from the Tumuaki

Denise Torrey —

He mihi mahana kia koutou katoa - Warm greetings to all.

This week I have been checking attendance. Regular attendance has life long implications according to the Dunedin Development study and the Education Counts site states, "the fewer days a student attends school, the more likely their lower attendance is to impact negatively on their wellbeing". We are part of the Everyday Counts study where the attendance is taken term 2 of every year and our attendance has fallen each year we have been part of the study.  There are a number of factors but birthdays, getting haircuts and buying new shoes are not good reasons to miss school.

We also find that children arriving late often sets them up to have a poor learning experience for the rest of the day. So whanau we need your help - let's work on regular attendance and getting our tamariki here on time!

Please make sure you contact us before 8:30am if your child is absent. It's  taking an hour a day sometimes to track children. An hour is too long if a child is truly missing.

Thank you to those who have been reminding tamariki about wearing helmets. I have been checking and we still have a number with no helmets. Next week, during my random check, if your child does not have their helmet I will hold their wheelie until you collect. It is in our policy that all children who bring a wheelie to school, must WEAR a helmet. This includes bikes, scooters, skates and skateboards.

Please keep up to date with messages we send out via newsletter, our APP and newsletter re the COVID - 19 virus.
