Somerfield Te Kura Wairepo tamariki enjoyed sunny conditions at the 2022 Centrals Cross Country at Ngā Puna Wai last week, the team of seven mixing with some of the best primary school runners in Canterbury.

The team of Hazel Rutherford, Penny Ingram, Mia Croft, Freddie Panckhurst, Jordan White (Year 5), Anna Evans and Pedro Machado Wada (Year 6) joined nearly 500 other runners from Canterbury schools for the 2km Year 5 and Year 6 races.

Congratulations to Hazel who finished eighth in the Year 5 Girls’ race as well as Pedro who crossed in 11th place in the Year 6 Boys’ event.

Illness impacted our team with both Guy Moore and Jesse Laurie unable to take part despite qualifying for the event last month.

Thanks to Angela and Chris for transporting the team to Ngā Puna Wai and parents who supported our tamariki on the day.
