Top team

Written by Carys Johns, Clementine McKenzie

Did you hear the squealing and excitement coming from Somerfield school today? We were participating in Top team, a kid-friendly, fun, challenge.

The purpose of Top Team is that it builds confidence and teamwork. It encourages your kids to work together and helps them learn to enjoy it! Even though Covid 19 changed it a little with being split into our separate year groups we could still have fun! Teamwork is very important because us kids need to learn how to work together, and Top Team really helps with that.

Throughout our session today we did a rotation of a range of activities, and were awarded points at each station. Water activities are one of the kids' favourite things in Top Team. They are able to work together to try not get wet (well not too wet). Things such as the barnacle water see them develop their social skills so much.

Now we can’t forget about the other activities, can we? From the basic gumboot toss to the extreme egg and spoon race, they were all as challenging as each other. We all got lots out of it by learning to think creatively and using our strengths. Communicating with each other was key to getting points.

Overall, everyone always has lots of fun with Top Team. From year one to year three and all the way up to year six, it’s always one of my highlights of the year.
