What is EPro8?

EPro8 is an engineering, problem solving and innovation.

EPro8 is a competition involving schools from all over christchurch, the top three teams with the most points compete against the other teams in the semi-finals. Somerfield had two teams compete- Year 5 were Lucy Moore, Ben Nellis, Zoe Rhodes and Hari Chisholm. The year 6 team were Laura Wilson, Zara Dhyrberg, Daniel McKay and Jack Revolta.

What we had to do

There were several challenges that we had to complete such as building a rat wheel and making a really tall elevator.

The equipment we had

We had a trolley of 3D printed equipment. We had long aluminium poles of all sizes with blue the biggest size to black being the smallest. We also had electronic pieces to do things like buzzers, lights, direction box, switches, and buttons. There was a box with random things, and another box with screws in it.

Funny things that occurred.

The judge gave us a button. We would press the button when we completed the challenge, it would trigger lights to flash above are stashion, then a unique song play, our song was the ghostbusters theme song. Different songs would play every minute for 2 and a half hours. It was super annoying! We compromised a LOT! Ben wanted to do something, Zoe wanted to do something different, then Hari would start something we weren't even up to! But then something clicked in our brains, and we all worked together.

Overall we highly recommend Epro 8, even when we disagree we can still work great as a team. Once you try Epro8 you will feel the same way we did after the competition feel about it. Engineer, Problem solve, Innovate. We would love to go again.

Well done to the year 6 team who are going to the semi finals in a couple of weeks!
