New potatoes from our te mara kai garden, at Hanan Kindergarten
Ngā Tamariki have been working with and alongside kaiako, to harvest the new potatoes from our te mara kai garden. This was an exciting moment, and rewarding for ngā tamariki to harvest the potatoes they had planted at the end of last year.
Tamariki and kaiako were surprised at how many potatoes we collected in the bucket. We also harvested two squash pumpkins from the garden. Tamariki worked alongside each other to clean each potato and had lots of conversations about how the potatoes looked.
Once the potatoes were all clean, kaiako and tamariki worked together to prepare the potatoes by safely cutting pieces to place in a tray before going into the oven.
Yummy!
At lunch, ngā tamariki and kaiako enjoyed the delicious kindergarten-grown potato chips.
Comments from ngā tamariki were "These are so yummy", "I cut a potato", "This is the one I cut", and "these are from our garden". A special moment to see tamariki very proud of the process they have been a part of and eating their own kai from the garden.
