Last year our tamariki and community took home a giant pumpkin seedling to enter Rata Kindergarten’s biggest pumpkin growing competition.

Growing a pumpkin has taught tamariki patience, responsibility and how to care for plants (manaakitanga). The pumpkins have created a lot of learning around math concepts like size, weight, colour and shape, making comparisons and estimating, not to mention using their muscles to move the giant things around!

The winning pumpkin was 60.1kgs!
