Kaitiaki of the worms
Fairlie Area Kindergarten had asked for some worms to get their worm farm going, and we were just about to process our farm to move the castings into our garden to prep for the spring time so it was perfect timing.
The tamariki helped to sort out the worms from the castings and collected a container full of worms to share with Fairlie Area Kindergarten.
We were very intrigued by what we saw with many questions coming through. “Do worms have eyes?” “Do worms have mouths?” “Do worms have ears”. “Look there’s a baby one”. “I hope the worm doesn’t poo on you!”. “That’s not scary!”
We had a lot of tamariki gaining confidence to hold worms after watching their friends hold them safely.
There was a lot of discussion about how to be Kaitiaki of the worms as they are so helpful for our garden.
