Fairlie Area Kindergarten —

Carpentry Shed

 The carpentry shed is a popular area for the tamariki currently

 Opportunities to learn about and begin to design and build things while developing a wide range of physical and thinking skills

 Learning taking place in the carpentry shed often relates to maths, science, technology and sculptural art

 Recently tamariki participated in a project of creating artwork for the carpentry shed walls.

Carpentry encourages tamariki to explore the properties of different materials (wood, nails, glue, etc.) and the concepts of structure, balance, and design. Carpentry play provides tamariki with an opportunity to explore, create, communicate, and contribute to their environment in a meaningful and hands-on way. Through carpentry, tamariki can develop fine motor skills, problem-solving abilities, and creativity.
