Rain not only provides opportunities to splash and jump in puddles, but it is also a time to explore with the senses as the sights, smells, and sounds of the environment change.  Exploring and playing in diverse weather supports tamariki in being curious learners as they connect with the world around them.

Recent heavy rain provided tamariki with an opportunity to learn through their play as they saw the sandpit changing in front of them.  Puddles became streams, streams became rivers and eventually the sandpit river ‘burst’ its banks.  Tamariki worked together exploring the force of water as they tried different ideas and solutions to stop the flooding.
