Lake Tekapo Kindergarten
Lake Tekapo Kindergarten enjoys stunning views of beautiful Lake Takapō (Tekapo) with Ōtehīwai (Mt John) watching over us. Big brother Aoraki | Mt Cook can also be seen on a clear day.
Ko Ōtehīwai te maunga
Ko Takapō te awa
Ko te Manahuna te whenua
Ko Ngāi Tahu te iwi
Tamariki enjoy the large outdoors, with room to run, roll down the bank and chase balls down the path. We encourage our small whānau group to play peacefully. Natural resources are seen as taonga and our tamariki show a practice of whakauka (sustainability for looking after and mending things).
Next door, our community Rainbow Garden provides a wilder space where we help to grow kai and forage for herbs to add to the bread we make regularly.
Whakawhanaungatanga is key for kaiako as we build connections with whānau, welcoming everyone within this small town community into the kindergarten whānau, strengthening a sense of belonging. We recognise the value of diversity within this community, Lake Tekapo Kindergarten is a welcoming home for everyone.
We have strong links to our local primary school, where tamariki experience regular visits.
Our kindergarten learning space is shared with Bright Stars, creating a strong connection with the Lake Tekapo playgroup.

Whānau comments:
"It's really nice to have these returns from Aurora development. As migrant parents, it is super important for us to have support, and we have felt immensely supported throughout this entire process. For us it is very important to know that Aurora has that support from you, that she has made that space, her space, and of you, her safe place. Thank you very much for everything, it has been a pleasure to support on you, who do this work with so much dedication and love. Congratulation to all this amazing team❤"
“Great teachers who make a welcoming and fun filled environment for kids and parents"
"My daughter enjoys the multicultural languages at kindergarten with friendly and helpful teachers. Jasmine and Emma are always warm, welcoming, kind and support the tamariki with all tasks. We are so lucky!!"
"We love the school and kindergarten children visiting each place weekly. The kindergarten tamariki have so much fun with bigger sisters and brothers. Why wait so long to move to Tekapo where the kindergarten is an amazing place for the little ones"
