Creating a Puppet Theatre by South Canterbury Kindergartens

Creating a Puppet Theatre

Rhona Day KindergartenMarch 17, 2025

 Constructing a puppet theatre in the block area – tamariki working together to build a theatre that is balanced and safe to ‘duck down behind’

 Numerous opportunities for all of the tamariki involved to utilise their developing social skills – negotiating; turn-taking; listening to the ideas of their peers; and making room for others

 Using puppets enables all children to be creative and expressive in a different way; developing verbal communication skills through storytelling; and providing opportunities to take on a different persona – becoming a character (changing their voice, for example)

 Opportunities to share their knowledge of storytelling, and building on their enjoyment of stories in pukapuka (books)
