Lake Tekapo Kindergarten — February 11, 2025
Lake Tekapo Kindergarten were very privileged to have Geoff and Liz from New Zealand Bumblebee conservation trust come and visit and bring some Bumblebees. Our tamariki learnt that there’s a Queen bee who is in charge of the hive. She is the boss!
The Queen Bee buries herself underneath everything where then the hive becomes a cover that protects her.
We also learnt that Bees respond to noise very well. When Geoff tapped on the hive box the Bees made a loud humming sound.
Once we said thank you to Geoff and Liz we went inside to read a story called Bumblebee which was very kindly given to us by Geoff and Liz. The Tamariki enjoyed listening to the new story book of Bumblebee and learnt how Bees love the spring wild flowers and that Bees are happy in spring and sleep through winter and Autumn.
Lastly we listened to a song called Bumblebee. This is going to be another new song for us to all learn.
