Simon Moriarty —

It is hard to believe that we are already into our fourth week at the new South Hornby School Te Manu Tukutuku. The students and staff have settled into the space exceptionally well and have adopted the new routines really well. One highlight has been the stream of educators who have visited the school stating this is the best newly designed school they have seen.

Two weeks ago I was lucky enough to spend two days in Auckland attending workshops around our Learn, Create, Share learning model and BYOD programme we have running at South Hornby School. Around fifty other schools are involved in this programme around New Zealand and the learning data that is being collected is so impressive that at least 5o other schools are wanting to join the programme next year. One area of celebration was out of all school clusters the Hornby Cluster's student achievement had significantly risen in all three key learning areas, Reading, Writing and Maths.

Last week I was lucky enough to attend the Uru Manuka Cultural Festival. Once again the level of performance from our SHS Kapa Haka group was AMAZING! Big thanks to Mrs Dinnington and Miss Bannan for all their hard work in preparing our students. Also big congratulations to Nikora and Tamani for being awarded this year's Maori Student Achievement Award.

Huge congratulations to those students who also earned their white or blue Smiler Sam Badge or Trusted Kid Badge.

Great fun was also had by our students last Friday at the Sport Canterbury Top Team Challenge. Big thanks to the PTA for our delicious ice cream!

We are really excited about the launch of our new school website www.southhornby.school.nz. Check it out! Please keep up to date with all the upcoming events through facebook page and the school website.

Finally good luck to the 48 students who are representing the school at this weeks West Zone Athletic Sports.
