Wendy Huriwai —

Spring has sprung! The weather is becoming warmer, the days are a bit longer, lambs are struggling with the cool nights and the daffodils are blossoming.

Spring suggests new beginnings and South Hornby is a new school with fresh buildings and surroundings, a great staff, wonderful children and a supportive whānau. We have now been on our new site for two years and we are continually reviewing; What we do well? How we do it? and What we could be doing better? We really appreciate your thoughts and comments. As we move into Term 4, we will begin our strategic planning for the next three years.

We have already met with some groups within our community to see what is valued and what we could be doing better. As Term 4 begins, we will be out and about asking you the same two questions - What are we doing well? and What else would you like to see happening, to ensure your child is leaving South Hornby as the best person they can be?

Please add your thoughts. We can plan from what we have been told but find it tricky to know what you are thinking, if you don't voice your opinion.

Sometimes no matter where we are, we find things are not just as we think they should be and want to have a 'gripe about something.' There is always a correct process for this so please see the diagram below.

Our full policy can be found on School Docs along with our other school policies. The user name is south and the password is hornby.

Remember to also feel welcome to offer our fabulous teachers compliments when you notice something that is going really well for your child.

I am looking forward to the Ki o Rahi tournament tomorrow. We have a team of 24 children heading across to Gilberthorpe School during the afternoon. Please feel most welcome to come down and support our team.

We are very fortunate to be able to take the whole school to Ngā Hau Whā marae on the last day of this term. There will be no cost to parents. There will be a further notice sent home about this next week.

Thank you to the PTA for a terrific Walkathon event.  We will update you in the next newsletter re the amount raised and what this will go towards, besides new shade sails, once all sponsorship money is in.

Ngā mihi,

Wendy Huriwai
