Reporting to Parents
You are probably aware via media releases that New Zealand Schools are no longer required to report to parents/caregivers against the New Zealand National Standards.
This announcement, combined with a new online reporting system that we will be launching this year will dramatically change how reporting will look to you the parents/caregivers.
What will change:
* No more paper reports. Later this year you will receive a username and password which will take you to your children's learning portal. On this page you will see how your child is progressing against the NZ National Benchmarks in Reading, Writing, Maths, Learning Goals set by your children or their teacher, comments by your child's teacher on specific subject areas or how they are applying the SHS People Powers, samples of your children's learning and attendance information.
* Under the National Standards schools were required to report to parents on their anniversary date within the first three years. All reports will be posted onto your children's learning portal Mid Year (End of Term 2) and End Year (End of Term 4).
* Through your child's learning portal you will be able to see up to the minute updates of your child's progress when teachers upload assessment data or when learning goals are achieved, comment on your child's learning or even "like" it.
What won't change:
* You will still receive two written reports per year - Mid-Year & End Year.
* We will still hold parent/teacher interviews in Term 3 and Mutukaroa interviews for all parents/caregivers who have children in their first year at school.
* You can still come in and discuss your child's learning at ANY stage by setting up a meeting with their classroom teacher.
* You can still print a paper copy of your child's report should you need it.
* You will still know exactly how your child is progressing in their learning and what their next steps are.
Next Steps:
* We will keep you updated on the time frames of when our new reporting system will go live.
* We will run a number of information sessions for parents/caregivers about how to use and understand the learning portal.
* We will provide resources and help sheets to assist in your understanding of the new system
