Principal's Pen
Earlier this week the South Hornby School Te Manu Tukutuku received its confirmed report from the Education Review Office. The report highlights the strengths and next steps for the Board of Trustees and SHS Staff.
After a rigorous process which involves talking to key stakeholders in the school, including our students, observing in classrooms, collecting key data and documentation and finally reviewing and assessing all this information a final report is confirmed.
We were thrilled to receive an outstanding report from the Education Review Office, who highlighted the following:
"Students participate and learn in caring, collaborative, inclusive learning communities. Leaders, teachers and other staff care about students' learning and wellbeing. They foster nurturing relationships with students. Teachers provide real-life learning experiences that build on and extend children's knowledge and understandings."
"Leaders, teachers and parents engage in reciprocal learning partnerships. Leaders and teachers use a range of effective communication strategies that build relationships between parents and teachers to support children’s learning. The school helps students to make effective transitions into and through the school, and on to high school. Parents are regularly involved and supported to help their children learn."
We were also delighted to receive a 4-5 year review from ERO. To put that into perspective only 15%-20% of schools in New Zealand receive a 4-5 year review time frame.
This high quality report was achieved through the hard work and support of the staff, BOT, students and whanau of South Hornby School. We are lucky to be surrounded by such hard working a dedicated people who want the very best for all our students. A link to the full report can be found in the ERO Article and on our web site.
A massive congratulations to all students who represented South Hornby School at the West Zone X-Country. We were incredibly proud of your efforts. A huge thanks to Miss McLeod and Mrs McGuinniety who supported our students on the day.
