Wendy Huriwai —

We have had the final approval from the Ministry of Education for a new learning hub.

The building of Rakamaomao is due to start in May and will consist of four learning spaces, a Learning Support office and will look amazing next to the hall.

The architects and design team have worked hard to maintain the wonderful features of our existing hubs and have added even more great features.

The name Rakamaomao is aligned to our Cultural Narrative and is in tune with the names of our other learning hubs; winds which help our kite, Te Manu Tukutuku fly high, 'Creating pathways to grow heroes.'

According to this whakapapa, the names of Te Māuru-e-taki-nei, Pūnui-o-toka and Te Ope Ruaraki (existing names at Te Manu Tukutuku) are shown as sitting under Rakamaomao. Uru-te-maha and Rakamaomao are the origins of the winds from different directions and specifically Rakamaomao is the group of winds that blow from the North and South.

Rakamaomao will be situated next to the hall and in front of the bike track.

We are really thrilled to be at this phase of our kura's journey and are excited for the benefits that this build will bring to our tamariki, staff, and community.

Ngā mihi,

Wendy
