Bike Track Opening

Wendy Huriwai —

We were delighted to open our bike track yesterday.

We enjoyed a glorious day for the opening and the Year 5 and 6 children, Pūnui-o-toka, managed to have a 'blat' on the school bikes after an initial christening from some riders from our local BMX club. Glen, from Crankhouse was with us riding. Thank you to Glen for organising the safe assembly and delivery of the bikes to school and the ongoing maintenance of our bikes.

We sincerely thank Paul McCardle (Bike On NZ Charitable Trust) and Christchurch City Council for the generous grant which has allowed us to purchase bikes so that all children are able to enjoy bike riding. In addition, Bike On NZ Charitable Trust have supplied us with 100 helmets to ensure the safety of all of our tamariki.

Thank you to Elissa (Junior Neighbourhood Support) and Murray (Blue Lights) for organising the sausages and barbecue and to the PTA committee, who also helped with cooking these, to ensure we had enough sausages available for all children to enjoy a free sausage throughout the afternoon.

We were fortunate to have Jonathan from the Ministry of Education with us to 'cut the ribbon' and officially open the track.

Mrs McIntyre has worked very hard to bring this project to its completion and we are very thankful for the work she has done and know that all the children will enjoy this lovely resource.

Each Hub will have a rostered day to enjoy the bike track and Friday will be a special day assigned to the Hub which has had a super week of learning.

The kapa haka group opened the ceremony with two waiata and the haka and our lovely choir closed the ceremony with some beautiful singing.
