The Big Clean Up

Melanie Field —

Gather the whānau together on Sunday, 8 July at 10am and head down to the South New Brighton Community Centre for the 'South Brighton Community Clean Up' combined with the 'Whānau Clean Up'. You could help us stop hundreds of pieces of plastic and litter getting into our waterways as well as ensure South New Brighton School wins an awesome prize!

All you need to do is grab some gloves and a bag and choose an area in South New Brighton to clean up.  It could be the South Brighton Domain, around the estuary, around the school, or even your own street.  Bring your rubbish down to the South New Brighton Community Centre and record the room number of your child on the bag.

We will take a photo of everyone who comes out to help each class with the rubbish as well as the rubbish they collect.

The photos need to be posted on the NYLD Facebook page by 12pm, 31 July.

The Prizes:

  1. For the classroom that gets the most people out: A classroom visit with Young Ocean Explorers’ Steve and Riley Hathaway as well as five signed copies of their book
  2. For the classroom that collects the most rubbish: A pizza lunch for your classroom and 30 1+A Day t-shirts.

Winners will be announced by 5pm, 31 July.

What are you waiting for?  Get your classmates, call your whānau and get out there tomorrow and make a difference for our environment!
