Today, our climate change group hosted Poto Williams to ask questions about The Government's plans to address climate change, particularly in our local area. They also shared what the Climate Club has been doing at SNBS and the group's key messages.

The meeting was expertly led by Lucia and included a karakia in Te Reo Māori by Grace, a speech by Emily about what the group has been doing in Climate Club as well as sharing some of the climate change inquiries (solar panels for schools, trapping landfill gas, and reducing single-use plastic) undertaken over the term, and asking the group's pre-prepared questions. 

As part of her speech, Emily shared how the group had discussed the issue of single-use plastic packaging being used in malls, supermarkets, and shops, and the ideas the students had thought of to reduce this.  Amelia even brought in an example of how sushi could be packaged in a more environmentally friendly way, using a cardboard box with baking paper on the bottom.

After a short break for kai, the students continued asking questions and listening to Poto. They finished by sharing the group's following key messages:

1. Planting trees

2. Cleaning the estuary and beach

3. Spreading the word about climate change to the community.
