Giant swing at YMCA Camp
The Giant swing was our last activity on camp. It was a long walk but it was worth it. When we got up there we were given instructions and information. I was told that the swing was Seventeen metres high. The first person to go up was Jordyn.
We all had to pull a rope. The first move that we had to do was grab a piece of rope and put one hand in front of the other and pull. When we did that the swing would move higher and higher. Then the Instructor would tell us to Haul so we had to run and pull the rope into the bucket and run back to the front and grab the rope again and pull until the person told us to stop.
After other people had a go it was my turn. I had to put my harness and helmet on. Just looking at the swing gave me chills. Before I could even get on the swing I had an image of the swing going forwards and me flying off into the distance.
When I was on the swing I got help attaching my harness to the swing. When I was ready I was being pulled up. Every second it felt like the world was getting smaller as I was going higher. I got at least 12 or 14 metres high then yelled stop. It was very high but I don't think it was that high.
Everybody counted down from 3 to 1. I held my breath. Then I was told to pull on a piece of rope that would send me flying to outer space! When I pulled on that evil piece of rope I was not ready for what was going to happen. I was flinged forwards, I almost lost my breath. The scary thing was I felt like I was about to fall out of the swing while it was going. When It started to slow down I started breathing slowly again.
I had another go on the swing again. I yelled “Stop,” again but this time I went lower than my last turn. My experience was great. Once we were done we went back to camp to have lunch and get ready to leave.
