Te Kura o te Whata Kapahaka 2020
It has been a year of ups and downs for the kapahaka.
We have been so lucky this year to have an enthusiastic and positive kapahaka group. We have had some amazing leadership from the Year 6s and some very keen younger members who were able to learn quickly.
2020 has been a year of excitement and disappointment. We were very excited to be able to teach the school haka to the whole school. Every Wednesday, once Jump Jam had finished, we would get up on the deck and lead the haka so the whole school could learn it. This year I was excited to see more involvement from the juniors. The students from Com 4 came and joined in the senior kapahaka practices as learned the haka and some waiata. A group of dedicated juniors would also meet me at break times and they loved learning the haka.
Unfortunately the Cultural Festival was postponed due to Covid-19 and we were unable to attend the postponement date. The Pō Whakangahau, that we look forward to each year, was also cancelled. However, we are looking forward to performing at the McMillan Park opening and the Final Assembly.
