Parents and caregivers please feel welcome to join us at these special events and celebrations.

Celebration/Certificate Assembly - Friday 9th December from 9.15am

Our annual Celebration / Certificate Assembly where we present the awards that aren’t able to be presented at our final Prizegiving Assembly and sing several Christmas carols will be held in our school hall at 9.15am on Friday 9th December. The following awards will be presented: Zone Sports certificates - Poetry certificates - Service role certificates - Jump Jam certificates etc.

Leavers Fence Unveiling - Friday 9th December

Following assembly we will be unveiling the Year 6 leavers fence palings.

A Parent Helpers morning tea will follow the unveiling at 10.30am

Prizegiving - Monday 12th December at 6.30pm

This is an important event at the end our school year and is compulsory for all students. It is held at the Ellesmere College Hall in Leeston, starting at 6.30pm. We acknowledge that this means that some students will be later to bed than usual, however the next day is our school picnic and values celebration.

The prizegiving is a formal assembly where our major awards for the year are presented including sporting cups, academic and effort awards for each class, poetry, speech and citizenship awards. Farewell speeches are made to senior students. Our kapa haka group and choir perform and the evening ends with our Year 6 students being farewelled by our Southbridge School community and welcomed by Ellesmere College students. All students are expected to wear clean and tidy school uniform to the event. Parents and caregivers of children who are receiving an award, will be contacted prior to Prizegiving.

An annual donation made by Nelson Coachlines (our school bus provider) will be used to provide buses to take all students to the Ellesmere College Hall for a rehearsal on the morning of the prizegiving; we are grateful to them for their  support of our school.

Values Celebration and School Picnic Day - Tuesday 13th December

This is a fun day where the school community gathers together for a picnic and a fun day of activities. Children can dress in mufti, hopefully in the colour of their value (like house spirit etc) and come to school as normal by 9:00am or they can have a sleep in and arrive later with their family by 10:00am. They are to report to their classroom at 10am so the roll can be taken then assemble at the end of Com 4 to start events. Once again this year we’re limiting car parking to the field beside the church.

The Values themed activities will begin at 10.15am. All children will be split into 5 different groups of all ages and their group will rotate around five different stations on the day, having 30 minutes at each station/activity. Families bring their own food for morning tea and lunch and find a place on our main field to picnic for the day. The day concludes with Santa arriving (usually on a novel form of transport) at around 1.40pm with some goodies for the children and children go home if they have parents there at 2pm. Buses will run as normal, leaving school at 3.10pm for any children who stay on after 2pm.

More information will be sent home regarding this day closer to the time.
