Welcome back to Southbridge School Dan Carter!

Tamara Bell —

On Friday we had a very special ex-pupil visit us again at Southbridge School - Dan Carter.

Ruby and James our school leaders welcomed Dan back to Southbridge School. We last saw him in 2018 when he came to visit his childhood school. This time he came to film a documentary about his life and a big part of this was about where he started. The kapa haka group performed a haka to welcome him at a special assembly held by the school.  After the haka, Whaea T spoke and then Dan explained why he was back at Southbridge.

Later,  Dan and the camera crew came around to all the classes and some of the children asked him questions about his rugby career and his life after rugby.

Recently he has been in France with his family and is set to return there soon and is currently playing rugby in Japan.  After he left our school in 2018 he went back to Japan and he stayed there for a whole season. Now he's going back to France to try to win the European Cup because that's the one trophy he has yet to win.  After that he is playing one more season for Japan.

The students got to play some touch rugby with Dan and were able to have some kicks around with the ball.  We all had so much fun kicking the ball we around and getting things signed. After we played touch some students had photos and then Dan had to leave to visit Ellesmere College.
