From the Principal's Desk
Week 9 - Term 4, 2019. Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa!
Kia ora e te whānau!
While it may feel like this term has just started, we have now come to the final week!
By now you should have received all the important information you need to know about your child's class for 2020, including their stationery list and approximate costs for next year. Please follow Sonya's instructions and take the time to book in your whānau conference hui for the first Wednesday of week 1, Term 1 next year too. I know our teachers are looking forward to starting the year off with some 1-1 time with each child and their family.
We were very lucky to have Mr Robbie Barraclough and Mrs Ashleigh Tibbotts come and spend the day with us on Tuesday and they said they had a fantastic time getting to know all the children in their respective classes next year. They also stayed on after school for our staff, BoT and Home & School Xmas BBQ so it was a wonderful opportunity for them to meet everyone and for us to warmly welcome them to the Southbridge community.
Southfuels - 'Fuel for Schools'
Thank you to South Fuels and out local families and businesses that support our school through SouthFuels’ ‘Fuel for Schools’ programme.
Due to your generosity, Alanna Taylor from Southfuels visited us last week and delivered three brand new Chromebook computers for our school due to reaching a $1,000 awards total.
We would like to take the time to mention who those members of the community are that have contributed to our school, those being:
- Brooklands Farm Limited
- Gl & CE McFadden
- LP & KI Thian
- McGregor Dairy Limited
- J P Wheeler
- Hussey Spraying Ltd
- Galloway Dairies Ltd
- Tuffnell Drainage Limited
- Bailey Farming Company Ltd
- Hamilton Seeds Ltd
We are very grateful for your ongoing support! Rural communities and schools everywhere can enjoy the benefits of the Fuel for Schools programme. For more information about the programme or to sign up now and help us reach the next awards total, call 0800 4 THE KIDS (0800 484 3543) or visit the website.
I want to encourage you all to join us for our celebration and end of year activities planned for this week...
Tuesday = celebration assembly, the unveiling of leavers palings and parent helpers morning tea from 9.15am at school
Wednesday = prizegiving evening at 6.30pm at Ellesmere College Gym
Thursday = Values Picnic Day 10am - 2pm at school
Friday = school closes at 12pm
Our Southbridge family and community members are always welcome at school and we are also extremely grateful for the amount of support we receive from our parents and family members, so I look forward to seeing many of you over the week.
Finally, I would like to thank you all for another amazing year at Southbridge School. Schools are fast-paced, high energy, sometimes challenging but hugely rewarding places to work in and I truly love my job. I feel privileged to be a part of this staff and the Southbridge community and to play a role in supporting our young people to be the best they can be. Good luck to our Year 6's and all students and staff finishing their time at Southbridge School at the end of this week.
I wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a safe and relaxing summer break with your family and friends. I look forward to seeing you all again in 2020 - Ngā mihi o te Kirihimete me te Tau Hau!
Ngā mihi nui,
