Year 5 Camp, Spencer Park 2021
Time for our camp had arrived. All of the Year 5’s from both classes met up in Community 3 ready to go into different cars. It was about an hour's ride there. Once there we unpacked before we ate lunch and got into our first activity.
First we went orienteering in the forest. Some groups managed to get lost but some didn't. Campbell made a bet with Mrs McCartin. If Mrs McCartin won Campbell had to make a coffee for her but if Campbell won Mrs McCartin would have to make Campbell a milo. Mrs McCartin had a map so her group came back before Campbell’s.
After we had finished doing orienteering we went to the beach for a sandcastle contest. We kept the same groups. There were some very clever castles made but McKenna, Tayla, Layten and Ethan P’s group made a snake and they won.
We had yummy nachos with sausages for dinner and jelly with ice cream for dessert.
Later we had showers and coloured in pictures of animals and other stuff. At about 8:00pm we went to bed but most of us stayed up talking all night!
The next day we jumped on our bikes. There were three groups. The easy riders group, the middle group and the most confident riders group. Mrs McCartin’s group went on a little bike track around camp and then went through the forest. The other group went on twisty turny roads and ended up joining up with the second group. Kobe’s bike had broken so he had to ride Mrs Quilter's bike and she had to walk 5 miles back to the campsite. Mrs McCartin said that we had a choice to either go on the bouncy pillow, play some games, go on your bike or do some colouring-in.
On the second night we had a talent show. Some very brave people got up and danced, sang and performed some Jump Jam routines for us to enjoy.
The next morning for breakfast we had a choice of toast, rice bubbles, and cornflakes. Then we got ready to leave the camp and make our way home. On the way home we first stopped off at the animal park. We saw some different types of birds like fantails, tuis and little piggys. Afterwards we got in the cars and headed to ‘The Groynes. There we saw 100 year old trees and listened to a guide who told us about the reserve. We then went and did some investigations about water bugs which was fun. When we got back to school we were met by our parents. We went home and got slobbered in kisses by our parents who had missed us heaps.
Our Spencer Park Camp was a huge success. Thank you to all the parents who came along to support us.
