Gumboot Monday at Southbridge School!
Southbridge School helped raise funds for Gumboot Friday early this week.
For people struggling with depression, it can feel like walking through mud every day.
So on Friday 5 April 2019, people are being asked to show their support by putting their gumboots on, give a gold coin, and take a walk in their shoes for just one day. All donations go to I AM HOPE. https://www.iamhope.org.nz/
I AM HOPE is backed by the Key to Life Charitable Trust, a fundraising and advocacy organisation, which supports young people who are struggling with their mental health. They help connect young people with existing counsellors or therapists and provide funding, so that kids get help as soon as they need it.
It's a fun way for kiwis to join in the mental health conversation, while raising money to provide free and timely counselling for any kid in need.
Our Year 6 students are all away on camp this Friday but we thought that this is such an important cause to raise money for that instead of our Y6 students missing it, we decided to hold our Gumboot Friday on a Monday! The good news is that this still means that you all have time to participate this Friday too!!!!
So #GumbootUpNZ!
You can donate in four ways:
Internet banking (search Gumboot Friday Appeal as a payee)
In person at any Kiwibank branch
“Piggy-boots" at participating retailers and events (the organisers can deposit the money at a Kiwibank branch the next day)
More info is on our How to Donate page.
On Monday we raised over $200 - thank you to all the staff, kids and whānau who supported this awesome cause!
