Community 3 2019

Nicole Greenwood —

We have had a fun and busy year in Com 3 this year!

During 2019 we have packed in a lot of learning.

We spent the first 6 weeks swimming at Southbridge Pool most days which was nice on the super hot days!

We all were very excited about our first school camp. We shared bunk rooms with our friends and we did a talent show. On the first day we went to Clip 'n' Climb and challenged ourselves to climb higher and faster than we thought possible. We went on some fun walks and created sandcastles at the beach. We went on a Forest Survivor class and learnt to build huts in the forest and some people ate Huhu Grubs. One Huhu Grub even bit Oliver's lip! On the way back from the beach one day,  we even created our own song! We did a scavenger hunt and found lots of different things. We look forward to another camp again next year!

We made some Oobleck during our Science unit. We learnt that when you squeeze it, it turns to liquid and when you put force towards it, it turns solid.

We learnt about different forms of dance. We learnt one country dance and one rock and roll step.

This year we had a big focus on Visual Art. We created rainbow cakes using pastel and attempted a 3D effect. For Matariki we created starry backgrounds using paint, salt and water. We chose whether to make a penguin, bunny or whale out of egg carton, paint and felt material. We made some animals out of popsicle sticks, googly eyes and felt. We used pompoms to create caterpillars out of pegs. For our calendar art we created animated buildings with faces. During our Symmetry unit we created a symmetrical image of our own face using a photo. During Term 4 we created Taniwha based on a Taumutu Myth with Mrs Edmond.
