Former Southbridge School student and Baseball Champion heads to America for World Series of Baseball!
Liam Stoliker is heading to America in August to fulfil a dream, he is going to play baseball in the Babe Ruth World series!
Liam Stoliker went to Southbridge Playcentre from birth and then Southbridge School from the age of 5 and now he is Year 12 at Ellesmere College, where he is the Sports leader!
Liam has been making himself known in the baseball community for a few years now, winning the Baseball New Zealand National U13 championship with Levin Hustle. Then the Baseball NZ U16 Championship with Nelson.
With no u16 youth Baseball team to play for in Canterbury, Liam plays for the Selwyn Braves men's team and this year they won the Men's Championship Trophy. After a summer of Baseball at the Southern Cross Baseball Tournament in Levin Liam had the honour of being selected into the “All Tournament Team” - chosen by the coaches’ as the best of the tournament. It was also at this tournament that Liam was selected as a member of the u16 team travelling to America known as the “Pac Men U16 Team”, which will be heading off to Branson, Missouri to compete against other elite teams from all over the world in the The Babe Ruth World Series for Baseball in August.
Liam’s interest in baseball has a historic connection as his great grandfather and grandfather were both baseball pitchers in Canada. His Great Grandfather's pitching abilities saw him playing Baseball in World War 1 entertaining the troops.
Liam’s Grandfather played in Canada for a championship team which included a brother for a catcher, uncle for a coach and a nephew who was a bat boy. So Liam is part of a baseball lineage.
A BIG Thank You to Southbridge School for sponsoring Liam $100. If you would like to help us get Liam to America you can pay to get your name on his training shirt too, or donate to his givealittle cause https://givealittle.co.nz/lets-get-liam-to-america-to-play-baseball
