Play, eat, learn

Nicole Thornton —

Play, Eat, Learn is an approach we will continue with for 2019.

The aim of this approach is to provide a time to focus on eating in a calm, settled way prior to learning. Research shows that Play, Eat, Learn enhances the ability to focus and concentrate, improving the quality of learning as well as lifting the wellbeing of students (Kathleen Liberty, University of Canterbury).

We encourage students to bring a complex carbohydrate snack to have after our first block of learning. Complex carbohydrates release energy slowly throughout the morning and improve concentration. Complex carbohydrates are found in foods such as peas, beans, whole grains, and vegetables.
