Southern Cross Campus Girls Rugby league team claimed a remarkable victory in the Auckland Rugby League Premiership final against reigning champions Auckland Girls Grammar School (AGGS).

The match unfolded at Go Media Stadium, home of the "Wahs" with a massive turnout and support from many schools across Auckland.

From the opening whistle, our Southern Cross Campus Girls scored in the first 2 mins, (Tonga Toutai - Year 13) which hyped up the crowd, although we knew it would be a tough match. 

Our girls were in good possession and momentum which led them to score another try from Shafenior Lui, (Year 13).  We led the score board 8-0 but not long after, the powerful and experienced AGGS side came back to lead at halftime 16-10. 

Both sides, had set the stage for an intense final match. It was a crucial moment for our girls, especially our Year 13 students to come back and to finish strong for their final school year.

As the final minutes ticked away, Southern Cross Campus maintained their composure under pressure, securing their lead by 4 points. 

Auckland Rugby League Premier Girls winner Southern Cross Campus took the win from Auckland Girls Grammar School 24-20 coming from behind and trailing 16–10 at halftime.

The come-back win highlighted the determination of the Southern Cross Campus side who followed their processes and shifted the ball edge to edge in an exciting display of footy.

Congratulations to our MVP Mele Kaufusi - an outstanding powerhouse with her strong carries and metres.

This Southern Cross Campus victory, marks a historical moment as the first time to win the Auckland regional competition.

Our girls have set high standards for our next generation to take on this pathway of playing footy.
