Education outside of the classroom, Term 2 Week 8

SCC —

Despite the many interruptions we have had this term it is awesome that our students are still able to experience education outside the classroom. Below are two EOTC Trips we have had this week.

Whakapiki Ake Te Whe - Two of our Year 11 students Compton Martin-Bader and Kaya Martin-Bader visited the University of Auckland to participate in the Whakapiki Ake Te Whe programme which was hosted by the Faculty of Medical and Health Science.

They were welcomed with a Powhiri and a whakanoa process which was an honor for both our students to be part of. They participated in workshops across the faculty which allowed both students to experience the theory aspects of the department but also more hands on experimental workshops in a laboratory.

It was an inspiring experience for Compton and Kaya to be able to walk into an Anatomy Museum (containing donated human body parts) and an awesome laboratory. Both students represented SCC well as they both display the 4R throughout the whole day and were really engaged with the experiments in the lab. They managed to make connections and form new friends too with students from other schools who were also visiting.

Year 11 Hospitality Class Visit -  As part of the Year 11 Hospitality `careers in the hospitality industry’ our students were given an exclusive tour of the Sky City Hotel and The Grand Hotel. Our day featured keynote speakers who work in the hotel industry spoke about the career opportunities and work experience that were on offer. Students were well behaved and first time for some of our students to experience hotel living. We look forward to our next industry visit next term. Nga Mihi - Mrs M.
