As we navigate through this year, our collective aim at Southern Cross Campus is to foster an environment where excellence is not just a goal but a lived experience for every student.
An important element for success is regular attendance. Being present at school every day is more than a routine; it's a stepping stone towards improved academic outcomes, important learning experiences, social and emotional growth, and laying a solid foundation for future success.
I often emphasise four core principles at prize-giving ceremonies, graduations, and community gatherings, which are integral to our shared vision for your child's education:
- Coming to school, on time, every day – rain or shine
- Following the guidance provided by our teachers
- Trying the best in every situation
- Staying at school through to the end of Year 13
Emphasizing Attendance
To underscore the importance of the first point, we are introducing measures to cultivate an environment where excellence in attendance is recognized and rewarded:
Extracurricular Engagement:
Eligibility for participation in extracurricular activities, cultural groups, and sports will be contingent upon maintaining an attendance rate of 80% or higher. This initiative has been communicated to students in assembly and through their respective coaches and cultural leaders.
Cellphones "Away for the Day" Policy
In alignment with new directives from the Government, effective from Term 2, we will be implementing an "Away for the Day" policy regarding cellphone use. This means students are required to keep their cellphones turned off and stored in their bags during school hours. Initially any student who forgets and takes their cellphone out will be reminded to put the phone back in their bag. Should a pattern of repeated use emerge, it will be addressed through our usual discipline procedures. We welcome any questions or discussions you may wish to have regarding this policy.

Your support in these matters is invaluable. By ensuring your child understands and adheres to these guidelines, you're not only helping us create a conducive learning environment but also instilling in them the discipline and values necessary for success in life beyond school.

VISITORS SIGN-IN
As part of our school health and safety regulations to keep our school and community safe, we require all parents and visitors to sign-in/out from the school office.
STUDENT LEARNING
- Learning starts at 9.00am each day for all learners
- This means all learners should be in class ready for learning every day. Unless they are sick or unwell, parents must notify the school of their absence.
SCHOOL ENTRY | GATES OPEN
8.00AM BEFORE SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
- Years 1-6 entry for Buddy Reading / Reading Mileage
- Years 7-8 entry for students with a Reading Pass for Hub Learning
8.45AM ENTRY
- All other students enter the gates from 8.45am.
- All students should be in class by 9.00am ready for learning
- Learning instruction starts at 9.00am
9.00AM - SCHOOL GATES CLOSED (MONITORED)
Student Lates - all students entering the school gates after 9am are deemed late and must sign-in and present a late pass to the teacher upon entering class
- 9.00am-10.00am - students must sign-in from the student lates window (located opposite the uniform shop stairs)
- from 10.00am - students to sign-in from front reception
PARENTS & CAREGIVERS COLLECTING THEIR CHILDREN BEFORE THE END OF SCHOOL DAY
- The school gates will remain closed from 2.40pm and there will be no early release of children until 3.10pm (end of school day).
- Parents/Caregivers requiring early sign-out of their children from school regarding medical or real family emergency, must contact the office to arrange their release prior to 2.00pm.
- This is to help minimise the ongoing disruption to the end of day class programme.
NZEI STOP WORK PAID UNION MEETING : THURSDAY 21ST MARCH | 12.30PM CLOSE
School will close for all years 1-13 at 12.30pm on the 21st March. Please arrange supervision of all students from this time.
