Selwyn Young Leaders Day

Wendy Hamlin —

Springston students do us proud.

This week some of Springston senior students went to 'Kāhui Ako' Young Leaders Day at Lincoln along with 7 other schools. Tegan, Darcie, Emily, Libby, Kiera, Ashley, Jayden, Merrick, Robert and Thomas were chosen to be representatives for our school.

On the day students listened to the keynote speakers - 'The Two Raw Sisters'  Margo and Rosa Flanagan. Rosa and her sister Margo have opened a plant-based culinary school in Christchurch, which runs scheduled workshops, as well as corporate and private events. These young entrepreneur's shared their experiences about leadership, healthy lifestyle and what made them who they are today.

Before lunch students from all schools opted into two workshops. The workshops included leadership, identifying our strengths, learning about social media, and opportunities available at Lincoln High School.

After going to Young Leaders Day we have all learnt that a good leader is kind, honest, confident, inspirational, passionate, a good communicator, accountable, creative and resilient. As a group we are looking forward to sharing some of these skills throughout our school.
